Mirella’s Girls

For International Women’s Day, the Antonio Dalle Nogare Foundation screens Le ragazze di Mirella (Mirella’s girls, 25’ 30’’), a short film curated by Paolo Cortese and directed by Andrea Bevilacqua and Carlo Canè. The film features interviews with Francesca Cataldi, Anna Esposito, Gisella Meo, Franca Sonnino and Renata Prunas – artists that Mirella Bentivoglio included in the numerous female exhibitions she curated – and contributions by art historian Franca Zoccoli.

In the words of director Andrea Bevilacqua, the women artists interviewed are “all united by the inexhaustible urgency to express their artistic souls in a personal and autonomous way and outside the box, interweaving them with the daily lives of former, but still, young women of the 1970s. All free, all autonomous, but with one thing in common beyond the personal friendship that unites them to date: the fact that Mirella was to them a magnetic attraction, a megaphone, a soul capable of showing the world their sensitivities”.

The film was produced on the occasion of the centenary of Mirella Bentivoglio’s birth.

The screening of the short film will be introduced by a talk with the directors.
