Charlotte Posenenske

About the Artist
An internationally acclaimed artist and a figure central to the German minimalist movement, Charlotte Posenenske (1930-1985) worked mainly with sculpture, and received numerous accolades in Germany and from the international scene up until her decision, in 1968, to dedicate her life to sociology.
Posenenske set herself apart for her interest in seriality and the rigor of geometric forms: «The things I make are variable, as simple as possible, and eternally reproducible». Her works consist of multiple elements, carefully designed and produced in series and at low cost, varying in shape, materials, and structure.

Vierkantrohre Serie D
1967-2016
Hot-dip galvanised sheet steel, screws
Series D, made of galvanized steel, consists of six modular elements that can be combined using screws to create an infinite number of configurations, which, contrary to traditional sculpture, are by definition variable.
Curators or collectors can thus assemble and modify the installation according to their preferences, effectively acquiring creative authority from the artist.
