From September 12, 2020, to June 5, 2021, the Antonio Dalle Nogare Foundation presents the first major solo exhibition of Robert Breer (Detroit, USA, 1926 – Tucson, USA, 2011) in Italy.
A pioneer in animation techniques, Breer was one of the founders of the American avant-garde and is considered today one of the most innovative authors in experimental cinema. Breer’s entire ouvre is a reflection on the possibility of capturing time, blurring the boundaries between abstract and figurative, movement and stillness, object and subject.
Through a selection of more than seventy works, the exhibition retraces sixty years of the artist’s career: from his first research in the field of abstract painting and neo-plasticism, through his experiments with the moving image and a completely unconventional form of animation, to the Floats, the well-known mobile sculptures, real evolutions in the three-dimensional space of abstract and anti-narrative forms that characterize the artist’s pictorial and cinematographic research.
